BREAK Films and Scanner-Rhodes Productions are proud to announce the film line-up for the drive-in cinema at the Don Valley Bowl, Sheffield Olympic Legacy Park, on 22 & 23 August.
The Drive-In is open to the public and will give a new experience of watching films in the comfort of your own car. The event will comply with social distancing measures, yet it will allow the public to go out, have fun and watch a new film and/or their favourite film, on a big screen.
Councillor Mary Lea, Cabinet Member for for Culture, Parks and Leisure at Sheffield City Council, said: “Covid-19 restrictions has led to the cancellation of so many of our favourite events and activities so it’s fantastic that we can bring a weekend of movie entertainment to Sheffield, offering something for all ages. With screenings of family favourites, musical classics, top remakes and even a brand new thriller linked to Snooker which of course is back in its home city from this weekend, it promises to bring all the magic of the movies, in a safe and controlled environment.”
New British independent thriller, BREAK will be airing fresh from the first ever Drive-In premiere in London’s Brent Cross.
Due to be released in April, Break was postponed due to Covid-19 but is now being rolled out across UK Drive-ins.
Producer & actress Terri Dwyer said: “Being an independent film, we were hugely affected by Covid-19. We didn’t know when or where we could release our film. After 10 years of hard work we wanted to give Break a release it deserved. We were in Sheffield to coincide with the World Snooker Finals and we thought an open-air drive-in at Don Valley would be the perfect place to host our event. We would like to thank Sheffield Council for their support in arranging the first ever drive-in to Sheffield. We have put together a variety of family programming to give Sheffield a great Drive-in experience.”

The audience will be able to order refreshments online and delivered directly to their vehicle, along with contactless payments so they can remain socially distanced. There will be toilet facilities available and the sound will be broadcast via a FM transmitted and tuned in via the car radio.

Filmed in Sheffield’s world famous Crucible Theatre, London and Beijing, this life affirming rags-to-riches story follows the troubled but talented Spencer Pryde (Sam Gittins) a gifted, inner-city kid, wasting his life on petty crime and violence, until a chance encounter with Chinese stranger and former ‘eight ball’ pool champion, Vince Qiang (David Yip) and tough guy club owner Ray (Rutger Hauer) presents him with the opportunity to turn his life around.
When tragedy strikes, Spencer finally breaks away from his so-called friends and all the negative influences of his life – which include the UK’s current issues with drugs, violence and knife crime – but with Qiang’s guidance Spencer makes a bid for a prestigious snooker tournament held in Beijing…but can he overcome his demons and use the talents he was blessed with? Break’s release is set to coincide with Sheffield’s 2020 World Snooker Championship. Screenings of Break take place on the evenings of both Saturday 1st and Sunday 2nd, tickets are priced £25 per car.
BREAK has a stellar cast including British icon Jamie Foreman, BAFTA winner Adam Deacon, TV sensations Terri Dwyer & Sam Gittins, Luke Mably, international actor David Yip, and the late Hollywood legend Rutger Hauer in his final screen role. The film also features appearances by British snooker star Jack Lisowski, Chinese sensation Liang Wenbo and World Snooker Champion Ken Doherty. The film was made with the support of World Snooker. Dean Fisher is producing alongside actress/producer Terri Dwyer and the writer/director is Michael Elkin.
