The new base, inside the English Institute of Sport in Sheffield (EIS Sheffield), has been set up to support the project team in the development of the OLP.

It comes after EIS Sheffield, along with the nearby iceSheffield, were incorporated into the unique project – a joint venture in the East End of the city bringing together Sheffield Hallam University, Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and Sheffield City Council.

At the heart of the park is a state-of-the-art Advanced Wellbeing Research Centre (AWRC), which will become home to around 50 researchers and fully instrumented laboratories carrying out world-leading physical activity research.

The Rt. Hon Richard Caborn, former sports minister and project lead, said: “As this unique project gathers pace and worldwide interest, it’s essential that our project team is based on site to drive forward the delivery of the Olympic Legacy Park. Our new headquarters at EIS Sheffield makes us ideally placed to do this.

“We are grateful to EIS Sheffield for their support in making this move possible. Being located in the heart of the Olympic Legacy Park will be hugely beneficial.”

The Olympic Legacy Park will be home to Sheffield’s second University Technical College which will specialise in human sciences and computing for 14 to 19-year-olds.

A community pitch, 2,500 seat stand, hotel, multi-purpose indoor sports arena and the Oasis Academy make up 2012 Olympic Legacy hub for health and wellbeing research and learning.
