Yorkshire-based private healthcare provider LivingCare Group will provide a free Skin Check Service as part of the Olympic Legacy in Action community day at Sheffield Olympic Legacy Park on Sunday 14 June between 11am-4pm, as the business continues to highlight the importance of access to diagnostic healthcare.
As skin cancer cases in the UK have reached a record high – rising above 20,000 a year for the first time ever – LivingCare Group is offering event attendees the chance to have skin concerns assessed by healthcare professionals free of charge.
Led by LivingCare Group Consultant Dermatologist Dr Thomas King and supported by a team of specialist clinicians, the clinic will provide one-to-one assessments and advice on concerns including moles, skin tags and areas of skin discolouration. Attendees will have the opportunity to discuss any changes to their skin, ask questions and receive guidance on whether further investigation may be required.
The initiative raises awareness of the importance of early detection and encourages people to seek professional advice if they notice any unusual or changing skin conditions. Following their assessment, attendees will receive reassurance where no concerns are identified and signposted to further treatment pathways where additional assessment is recommended.
Dr Thomas King, Consultant Dermatologist at LivingCare Group said: “Early diagnosis can make a life-changing difference when it comes to skin cancer. In England, almost 100% of people diagnosed with stage 1 melanoma survive their cancer for five years or more, which is why recognising potential warning signs and seeking advice early is so important.
“Many people are unsure whether a mole or skin change is something they should be concerned about, and often delay getting it checked. This event is designed to remove some of those barriers by giving people direct access to experienced clinicians in a relaxed and supportive community setting.”
The LivingCare Group Skin Check Event also reflects the organisation’s continued commitment to supporting sport, wellbeing and community health across Yorkshire through proactive and preventative healthcare initiatives. Founded in 2002 by Dr Stephen Feldman, who brings more than 40 years’ experience in diagnostic and elite sports medicine, LivingCare Group delivers care to both private and NHS patients. Its clinical specialisms include dermatology, cardiology, elite sports medicine, musculoskeletal and pain management, urology and prostate screening.
The Olympic Legacy in Action community day offers opportunities for people to try a huge range of different sports and activities, visit a variety of interactive stalls and gather useful advice and information from healthcare providers.
Now in its fifth year, the annual community day is expected to attract approximately 3,000 visitors from across the region. The event is free to attend, with free parking available on-site.
