iceSheffield opens, featuring two Olympic size ice pads. Now home to British Ice Skating Academy of Dance launched by Torvill & Dean.

2003

English Institute of Sport Sheffield opens, as the country’s largest multi-sport training centre, home to Olympic, Paralympic and World Champion athletes.

2013

Sheffield City Council unveils its vision for a leading life sciences park, regenerating the Don Valley Stadium site and surrounding area.

2015

Oasis Academy Don Valley opens, providing a co-educational academy for 1,200 pupils aged 2-19 years old.

2016

UTC Sheffield Olympic Legacy Park opens, offering GCSEs, A Levels, and technical qualifications in Computing, Health Sciences or Sport Science for 600 students aged 13-18 years old.

2017

Public realm opens, providing access to open green spaces, run routes, cycle paths and the Sheffield & Tinsley Canal.

2017

3G pitch opens, providing a high-quality facility for the on-site school and college, community groups, leagues and professional teams including Sheffield Eagles RLFC and Barnsley Women’s FC.

2019

National Centre of Excellence for Food Engineering opens, with the vision to be internationally recognised for excellence in sustainable innovations for the global food system.

2020

Advanced Wellbeing Research Centre opens, dedicated to improving health and wellbeing through innovations that help people move.

2020

Scarborough Group International appointed as development partner by Sheffield City Council to deliver the next phase of the Park.

2023

Landing Pad opens at the Community Stadium, supporting the innovation ecosystem and providing high quality managed workspace for start-ups, scale-ups, spin-outs in the health, wellbeing and sport sectors.

2023

Canon Medical Arena opens, as the UK’s first carbon-neutral built community arena and home to Sheffield Sharks and Sheffield Hatters professional basketball teams.

2023

LivingCare Medical Diagnostic Centre opens, providing imaging services for professional sports clubs, and health insurance companies  and offering additional capacity for the NHS.

2024

Coming Soon – National Centre for Child Health Technology, a ground-breaking facility developing the world’s most advanced and integrated healthcare system for children and young people.

Rt Hon Richard Caborn

Richard served as MP for Sheffield Central for 27 years and as Sports Minister between 2001 and 2007, during which time he was instrumental in winning the bid for London to host the 2012 Olympics and Paralympics Games. Since leaving Parliament, Richard has maintained his passion for sport and industry and in 2014, in his role as Sheffield’s Ambassador for Business and Industry, was asked by the Leader of Sheffield City Council to create a vision for Sheffield Olympic Legacy Park. Over the years, Richard has worked tirelessly to make this vision a reality, bringing together both public and private sector partners to make the Park the success it is today, building firm foundations for an exciting future that will have a positive impact on many generations to come.

Dr Chris Low

Chris joined Legacy Park Ltd in 2021, at a pivotal point in the development of Sheffield Olympic Legacy Park as it marked the milestone of £100m of investment in the first phase of the Park. In his previous role as Associate Dean for Business and Enterprise at Sheffield Hallam University, Chris played a key role at the Advanced Wellbeing Research Centre and was founder of the AWRC Wellbeing Accelerator programme. Chris will drive the development of a world-class health and wellbeing research eco-system at Sheffield Olympic Legacy Park and increase research and development capacity on the site to attract further global investment. He will also be responsible for developing the skills strategy for the Park, helping to address the current health and social care workforce deficit and building the digital workforce of the future.

Claire Fretwell

Since 2015 Claire has performed a key role as Operations Manager and has been central to the development of Sheffield Olympic Legacy Park, bringing discipline, structure and process to this fast-growing, successful project. Claire also brings commercial experience, having previously worked in a variety of private sector roles in financial services, insurance and health, which enables her to deal effectively with organisations from a range of sectors. Her passion for authentic community involvement and empowerment has led to the creation of an extensive network of community connections within and beyond the Park, and a range of initiatives based at the Park.
