More than 600 guests attended the Olympic Legacy Park event in October, which was organised to recognise the city’s past, present and future athletes.
 
The money raised from the event will be donated to The Children’s Hospital Charity and SportsAid Yorkshire and Humberside, to help both organisations continue the work they do for the people of Sheffield and surrounding areas.
 
The glittering evening, presented by BBC sports reporter Tanya Arnold, was attended by several athletes from Rio 2016, including five World Champions and nine Olympic and Paralympic medallists.
 
The event was held in the centre of the Indoor Athletics Arena at the English Institute of Sport Sheffield and included a trampolining display and an auction in aid of the charities.
 
Olympic gold medallist Jessica Ennis-Hill was among the top names in attendance and was joined by Olympic hockey champion, Hollie Webb; Paralympic rowing champion, Grace Clough; Olympic gymnastics silver medallist Bryony Page, Olympic boxing silver medallist, Joe Joyce; Paralympic table tennis bronze medallist, Ross Wilson; IBF heavyweight champion, Anthony Joshua; professional mountain biker, Steve Peat and British road cycling champion, Adam Blythe.
 
Corporate Fundraiser for The Children’s Hospital Charity, Tchad Western, said: “We are so grateful to everyone who took part in the fundraising auction at the Celebration of Sport.
 
“Our charity works to fund enhancements to Sheffield Children’s Hospital over and above the NHS provision, so it is our job to help keep Yorkshire’s only standalone children’s hospital at the forefront of paediatric care. All donations from the Celebration of Sport will help fund a life-saving fluoroscopy suite, used to capture real-time moving X-Rays with as little radiation as possible.”
 
The Children’s Hospital Charity fund four key areas at Sheffield Children’s Hospital, including the latest medical equipment, research into the prevention and cure of childhood illnesses and improvements to the facilities and environment.

Now, thanks to the generous support of the guests, we can further our work with the next generation of Yorkshire Olympians, Paralympians and World Champions.”
 
Richard Caborn, Project Lead for the Olympic Legacy Park, said: “It was a fantastic event and it was incredible to see so many of our city’s sporting stars all in the same room for an evening of celebration. It was made even more special by raising an impressive £30,000 for two very deserving local charities.
 
“I’d like to say a huge thank you to everyone who made the event a night to remember for both charities and the people of Sheffield.”
