Sheffield Chamber Premium Partner, GB Boxing, played host to the networking breakfast at its headquarters in the English Institute of Sport Sheffield (EISS) at the heart of the Olympic Legacy Park (OLP).

Boxing stars, including Anthony Joshua, Joe Joyce and Pat McCormack, met and engaged with a number of businesses from across the city to showcase the work of GB Boxing and opportunities for businesses to be involved with the club.

During the event guests were given a tour of the purpose-built training facility and were able to step foot in the boxing ring used in the London 2012 Olympic Games.

GB Boxing was established in October 2008 to manage the World Class Performance Programme (WCPP) for boxing and prepare and train the boxers that compete for Great Britain at the Olympic Games.

GB Boxing oversees the men and women’s Podium and Podium Potential squads and in the 2009-13 cycle it achieved an unprecedented level of success as boxers from the programme won 21 medals at seven World and European championships in the run-up to London 2012.

At the 2012 Olympics, the boxing team won three gold medals, one silver and a bronze as Great Britain finished top of the boxing medal table for the first time since 1908.

GB Boxing event partners, MLS Contracts Ltd, is a leading sport and leisure consultancy, project management and event management company. MLS is looking forward to moving into its new home on the OLP once the Park Community Arena is complete.

MLS and Sheffield Chamber organised the networking event to remind people of the city’s assets and to offer a chance to rub shoulders with some of the most elite athletes in the world. The OLP offers world class facilities for amateur sports people, community sports programmes, school children and the local community as well as elite athletes and professional sports people.
 
Plans to host a further event with another major boxing nation in the Autumn are now underway.
