A major event is being held this week to showcase businesses and organisations spearheading the regeneration of the Attercliffe area of Sheffield.
The Showcase Attercliffe trade show, taking place on Thursday, will shine a spotlight on a wide range of organisations that are putting the east end of Sheffield back on the business map.
The focus is on sport, health and wellbeing, manufacturing and engineering with 22 trade stands and presentations throughout the day from key figures and companies in the area.
These include former Sports Minister and Sheffield Olympic Legacy Park Project Lead, Richard Caborn.
The development of the Park has already brought three research centres to Attercliffe – the Advanced Wellbeing Research Centre, National Centre for Sport & Exercise Medicine and National Centre of Excellence for Food Engineering; in addition to a University Technical College specialising in Sport Science, Health Science and Computing, and an Oasis Academy School.
These venues join established facilities including the English Institute of Sport Sheffield, iceSheffield and FlyDSA Arena.
Sheffield Olympic Legacy Park also offers a range of opportunities for exercise and outdoor activities including Outdoor City run routes, cycle paths, 3G pitch, a cricket square on Don Valley Bowl, coached running sessions, a junior parkrun and access to Sheffield & Tinsley Canal.
Mitchell Hinchcliffe, Showcase Attercliffe organiser and Director of The Library by Lounge, said: “The development of Sheffield Olympic Legacy Park has been a real catalyst for the revitalisation and redevelopment of the area.
“We wanted to shine a spotlight on the east end of Sheffield for a change and have been blown away by how the event has snowballed to become a real showcase for the wider Sheffield business community to see why Attercliffe is the upcoming area for business and development.
“Our focus is on sport, business, manufacturing and engineering – industries that have occupied the zeitgeist of the Attercliffe and Lower Don Valley areas for many years – as well as on the high-tech and digital sector which is establishing a presence here too.
“With specialist speakers discussing these topics and Attercliffe’s role in the infrastructure of Sheffield’s continued advancement, it should be a real celebration.”
Presentations will be given by Sheffield Eagles, Gripple, co-organisers Datamills, Compliance Pod, the National Centre of Excellence for Food Engineering and the Advanced Wellbeing Research Centre.
Showcase Attercliffe will be held from 9.30am to 4pm on Thursday 12 March, at The Library on Leeds Road, Sheffield, S9 3TY. Entry is free and tickets can be booked via eventbrite
Alongside the event, local business Accelerate Running Co is offering a guided 5km lunchtime run through Sheffield Olympic Legacy Park and along the River Don. The run will start outside The Library Café at 12.15pm, booking not necessary, just turn up.
