South Yorkshire’s largest and highest performing netball organisation, DNC Netball, rebrands as Sheffield Steel Netball
This exciting rebrand as Sheffield Steel Netball reflects the change over the past few years from being a community club training in various schools and leisure centres across a wide geographic area, to being a large netball organisation based at Canon Medical Arena at Sheffield Olympic Legacy Park. As England Netball’s National ‘Club of The Year’ 2023, the rebrand as Sheffield Steel Netball reflects the geographic location in the heart of Sheffield’s sporting community.
Sheffield Steel Netball moved into Canon Medical Arena when it opened in October 2023 – the home of Sheffield Sharks Basketball and Sheffield Hatters Basketball – as their permanent home under the community netball club name ‘DNC Netball’. The relocation was facilitated by Arena Netball, the Community Interest Company with the contract to provide all netball at the arena.
This exciting netball rebrand as Sheffield Steel Netball is the next step in the development for the netball organisation which continues to grow and promote sports, health and wellbeing across Sheffield, through the provision of netball at Canon Medical Arena. As current Yorkshire Premier League Champions, with four National athletes in the Senior Prem Squad, Sheffield Steel Netball provides an elite performance netball programme, a club pathway and attracts netball athletes from a wide geographic area. In addition to elite netball, it also delivers weekly training and competition to over 200 competitive club netballers competing in the South Yorkshire Senior and Junior County Leagues.
Facilitated by the Community Interest Company, Arena Netball, the elite performance programme and competitive core club, rebranded as Sheffield Steel Netball, can now run alongside the provision of community participation netball from Y2 to adults, including outreach work locally to engage and keep young people in sport and to identify and develop talented young netball athletes.
Forged in Sheffield, the new name Sheffield Steel Netball reflects the strong and resilient Sheffield based netball organisation it has become.
