Community Initiatives and Activities.
Collaborating with our local communities to bring benefits for all.
We work with community groups, charities, businesses and other organisations to help our local community connect and stay active while also maximising usage of the Park’s facilities for activities and events. Check out some of our community initiatives below.
We work with a range of community partners to ensure our initiatives and activities are inclusive and accessible and we always welcome conversations with potential new partners.

All events are organised by a group of wonderful, dedicated, local volunteers. Volunteer opportunities include – run directors, timers, scanners, warm up leader, tail walker, finish funnel managers and marshals.
A Tree for Everyone
South Yorkshire’s Mayor Oliver Coppard aims to plant 1.4 million trees across the region, one for every person who lives in South Yorkshire.
As part of this initiative, he led the planting of 17 trees at Sheffield Olympic Legacy Park to celebrate South Yorkshire’s success at the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
Each tree represents one of the 17 medals won by our athletes and has a plaque showing details of the athlete, sport and medal won.
Students from Oasis Academy Don Valley took part in the tree planting and will help nurture the trees as they grow.
Oasis Academy Community Hub
The Community Hub at Oasis Academy Don Valley serves the pupils, families, and wider community in the local area. A Hub Council is in place, made up of staff, parents and community members who help plan and implement the Community Hub activities.
Current activities include coffee mornings, allotment sessions, litter picking groups, health walks and a second-hand clothes stall. Other activities throughout the year have included Christmas quizzes, bike workshops, food bank collections, fundraising events, and running Healthy Holidays programmes during the school holidays.
If you are interested in joining the Hub Council and supporting your local community, we would love to hear from you.
Public Involvement in Research Group
Want to help shape our research?
The Advanced Wellbeing Research Centre (AWRC) Public Involvement in Research Group (PIRG) aims to support the development and delivery of high quality research. The group will provide a forum to enable researchers to engage and listen to the public and for the public to directly support, challenge and participate in the design and delivery of research.
We want to make sure that the public and patient voice is included in all aspects of AWRC research as we develop new ideas and products that aim to help people to move more and improve wellbeing
The group will provide a forum to enable researchers to engage and listen to the public and for the public to directly support, challenge and participate in the design and delivery of research.
Outdoor City Run Routes
Our Outdoor City Run Routes are part of a city wide programme funded by England Athletics. Over 30 run routes are signposted and mapped in 15 of Sheffield’s parks and woodlands.
The run routes at Sheffield Olympic Legacy Park include 1km and 1.8km easy rated routes. These also include an optional climb to the top of the hill to take in the view across the city.
A longer 6km medium rated route takes in sections of the nearby Sheffield and Tinsley Canal, Attercliffe and River Don. All routes start and finish at the 100m marked track and are clearly signposted throughout. They are free to use and always available.
