Professor Chris Low will step down as Chief Executive of Legacy Park Ltd at the end of March, bringing to a close five years of leadership during an important phase in the development of Sheffield Olympic Legacy Park.
Chris was appointed Chief Executive in 2021. Since then, he has helped guide the continued growth of the Park, working closely with Park partners, stakeholders and development partner Scarborough Group International to strengthen the Park’s position as the home of world-class innovation in sport, health and wellbeing.
A key focus of Chris’ role has been overseeing and ensuring the Park continues to meet the British Olympic Association criteria required for the licence to use the word ‘Olympic’. This has helped protect the Park’s unique identity and its direct link to the London 2012 legacy, while supporting its evolution as a place for collaboration, research and commercial growth.
Chris has also worked with Mayoral Combined Authorities across Yorkshire to ensure the Park has impact beyond Sheffield, helping to align its work with regional priorities and extend its reach and influence across the wider region.
Alongside this, he has played an important role in raising the Park’s national profile, hosting high level visitors including the Chief Scientific Adviser to the UK Government and the Minister for Sport, helping to showcase the Park’s work at a national level.
Alongside his Chief Executive role, Chris has been a strong supporter of innovation and business growth. In his former role as Associate Dean at Sheffield Hallam University, he founded the Advanced Wellbeing Research Centre’s Wellbeing Accelerator. He later drew on this experience and expertise whilst at Legacy Park Ltd to support two further accelerator programmes – the Jump Sports Accelerator and the KidsUp Child Health Tech Accelerator.
Chris has played a key role in supporting plans for Sheffield Children’s National Centre for Child Health Technology, being a member of the Programme Board to develop the business case for the centre and working closely with the Commercial Director to guide the development of the commercial model.
He has also contributed to the education and skills strategy for the Park through his work with the University Technical College. This has included Co-Chairing the NHS England funded National Digital Health Skills Programme and supporting initiatives such as the MedTech & HealthTech Forum to demonstrate the Park as a nationally significant hub for digital health education, skills development and innovation.
Legacy Park Ltd would like to thank Chris for his leadership and commitment over the past five years. His work with partners locally, regionally and nationally has helped shape the Park’s direction and build strong foundations for the future, and we wish him every success for the next chapter of his career.
