Sheffield set to celebrate sporting stars

Stars such as Dame Jessica Ennis-Hill, Grace Clough, Johnny Nelson, Mike Tuck and Ross Wilson are confirmed guests for the second staging of Sheffield’s Celebration of Sport, along with medallists from the Olympics, European Championships, and the Commonwealth Games.

The red-carpet event, hosted by Sheffield Olympic Legacy Park, will include an awards presentation to recognise the success of the city’s grassroots, elite and world champion sporting stars.

The Rt Hon Richard Caborn, Project Lead for Sheffield Olympic Legacy Park, said: “The two years since our first Celebration of Sport have flown by and have been filled with yet more Sheffield sporting success.

“This is our chance to recognise the incredible achievements of sports people and sports teams from the world of athletics, boxing, football, diving, rowing, skiing, cycling and many more – the list goes on!”

TV presenter and well-known sports journalist Tanya Arnold will host the evening and interview famous faces from the world of sport.

Richard continued: “No sporting event in Sheffield can take place without reference to the great Brendan Ingle and we will be paying tribute to him on the night.

“There will also be an auction to raise funds for two very good causes – The Children’s Hospital Charity and Yorkshire Sport Foundation.”

VIP table packages are now sold out; however a limited number of standard table packages are still available for £1,000 + VAT for a table of ten. Individual tickets can also be purchased for £100 + VAT.

Headline sponsors are Meadowhall/British Land, with Sytner BMW and Pinders also supporting the event.

Meadowhall Centre Director Darren Pearce said: “We’re very proud of our city and the sporting talent it produces so this prestigious event is something we’re honoured to support.”
