Stars such as Dame Jessica Ennis-Hill, Grace Clough, Johnny Nelson, Mike Tuck and Ross Wilson are confirmed guests for the second staging of Sheffield’s Celebration of Sport, taking place on Thursday 4 October at the English Institute of Sport Sheffield.
Nominated individuals, groups or teams in the Sheffield City Region are as follows:
Young Sports Performer 2018 – sponsored by Hallam FM
- Maisie Bond, the youngest member of the Swim England Diving Squad, who medalled in every diving competition she entered in 2017 and 2018
- Yasmin Harper, a junior springboard diver from the City of Sheffield Diving Club, who represented Great Britain at the World Junior Diving Championships in 2018
- Liam Kirk, the first English born and trained ice hockey player to be drafted into the National Hockey League (NHL) who has represented England and GB at elite levels

Disabled Sports Performer 2018 – sponsored by Sheffield Assay Office
- Jack Hunter-Spivey, GB Paralympic table tennis player who is currently UK number one in his classification and is in the world’s top three, with 10 British titles to his name
- Jack Shephard, Para-badminton World Champion who won gold at both the 2016 European Championships and the 2017 World Championships
- Ross Wilson, GB Paralympic table tennis player who has medalled countless times in the past two years, including at the 2016 Rio Paralympics, the 2017 European Championships and the 2018 Commonwealth Games

- Ross Haslam, who finished in the top 10 at the 2017 World Diving Championships, delivered impressive performances at the 2018 Commonwealth Games, and took home Silver with Grace Reid in the mixed synchronised 3m springboard final at the European Championships

- Paul Smith, the youngest person to win England’s strongest man competition in 2016

- Anise Ahmed, who played a big part in creating junior football club Aden Steelers FC which has had a great impact on the local community
- James Norton, who set up a couch to 5k group to encourage people to get into running
- Dawn Wood, who plays a key role at Derek Dooley FC and supported the team in taking home gold at the 2017 Special Olympics

- Aston Swallownest JFC, which offers football for boys and girls at all ages and is due to start a junior pan-disability football team this season
- Hallam Barbell, which has outreach programs including Olympic Weightlifting, Powerbelle, MindfullySTRONG and Strong4Life available to all aspects of the community
- Wisewood FC, which is one of the largest junior football clubs in the region and resurrected the former playing fields of Wisewood School after years of neglect

A Lifetime Achievement Award, sponsored by One Health Group, will also be presented at the red-carpet event, hosted by Sheffield Olympic Legacy Park.
