Young people interested in careers in computing, health sciences and sport science are invited to find out more at a series of UTC Sheffield Olympic Legacy Park virtual open events this month.
At the technical school for 13 to 19-year-olds, which is Ofsted graded ‘good’, students complete A Levels and technical qualifications in computing, health sciences or sport science.
Jess Stevenson, Principal of UTC Sheffield Olympic Legacy Park, said: “I am really proud of my students and staff and what they are achieving, especially during these challenging times.”
She added: “We offer three exciting technical specialisms and A Levels enabling students to develop academic knowledge as well as the technical and problem-solving skills that universities and employers need.
“Our Class of 2020 has progressed to some great destinations and I’m really looking forward to sharing all of this with our open event guests.”
At the UTC, part of Sheffield Olympic Legacy Park, students work on employer-led projects, developing skills related to their subject specialism as well as team working and problem solving.
Young people, and parents and carers, can find out more about Year 9 and Year 12 places for September 2021 by attending a series of virtual open events this month:
• Computing – Tuesday 10 November, from 5.30pm to 6.20pm
• Health Sciences & Social Care – Wednesday 18 November from 5.30pm to 6.20pm
• Sport Science – Tuesday 24 November from 5.30pm to 6.20pm
Guests will hear from the Principal, curriculum staff, alumni and employers, and find out more about UTC’s three technical specialisms.

Alice Weaver is part of the Class of 2020 and achieved strong grades after completing a technical qualification in health sciences and social care as well as psychology A Level.
She decided to go onto study a Mental Health Nursing Degree at Sheffield Hallam University after finishing her studies at the UTC this summer. Alice was a trailblazer, being among the first Year 10 cohort to start at the UTC when it opened in 2016.
Alice said: “The career I want to pursue is mental health nursing, which is a field I am passionate about. I definitely think the UTC has prepared me for the future, by teaching me the correct discipline, whilst also supplying me with much needed qualities such as confidence and teamwork.”
She added: “By having experience with many visitors, entrepreneurs, and professionals, I feel as though they gave me the correct knowledge and taught me skills needed for the future. The staff ensure you are the best version of yourself and teach you how to be prepared for the outside world and for your career ahead.”
The UTC, which is part of The Sheffield UTC Academy Trust, is equipped with the latest industry standard facilities. Organisations supporting the UTC include Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, employers on Sheffield Olympic Legacy Park, Sheffield Hallam University and the University of Sheffield.
Students from the Class of 2020 have progressed to university to study a range of degree subjects including computer science, nursing, occupational therapy, primary education, radiography and oncology and sport and exercise science at institutions including Sheffield Hallam University, the University of Bristol, the University of York, the University of Leeds and Nottingham Trent University.
UTCs are government funded technical schools that provide academic and technical qualifications to match the skills needs of regional employers, supporting economic growth and employment.
