Move More at Sheffield Olympic Legacy Park!

Sheffield Olympic Legacy Park is the perfect place to get moving with a range of activities to choose from.

The Park is home to the latest Outdoor City Run Route –  choose from a 1km easy rated route or a 6km medium rated route that takes in sections of Sheffield and Tinsley Canal and the River Don.

If you’re looking for somewhere to practice your sprinting you’ll find a 100m 3 lane track in the middle of the Park and, once the Advanced Wellbeing Research Centre is open, sensors will be installed to time a 100m sprint on a big screen and also time a 1km loop of the Park.

Local running store Accelerate run a number of training sessions based in and around Sheffield Olympic Legacy Park and are launching a new session on Friday mornings starting on 8 June – ‘Running Past 50’ for those over the age of 50 looking to improve their running for health and enjoyment.

The sessions, graded to fitness and age ability with an ‘Intro’, ‘Getting It’ and ‘Got It’ group, will be led by qualified leaders and coaches. Find out more on the Accelerate Facebook page.

On two wheels? Sheffield Olympic Legacy Park can be easily reached from the National Cycle Route – join the canal path from route number 6 on Tinsley Park Road or try route number 67 which follows the River Don from the city centre.

Did you know Don Valley Bowl has a synthetic cricket pitch?  Installed as part of a city wide programme by Yorkshire Cricket Board this is already being utilised by a number of teams from the local community.

Sheffield Olympic Legacy Park is an ideal point to start and finish the 8 mile Blue Loop walk around Sheffield and Tinsley Canal and the River Don. The loop flows close by Meadowhall and Victoria Quays and offers the opportunity for plenty of wildlife spotting along the way.

The Blue Loop also run volunteering days on Wednesday mornings, a great way to move more and do good at the same time.

Not enough time to walk 8 miles? Then take a shorter walk around Sheffield Olympic Legacy Park and take a look at the progress made to date on the regeneration of the site. If you head to the top of the hill you’ll be rewarded with a panoramic view across the Lower Don Valley to the city centre.

The 3G pitch, new home to Sheffield Eagles and used during the day by Oasis Academy Don Valley and UTC Sheffield Olympic Legacy Park, is also available for community hire – contact the pitch operator Pulse Fitness for more details – manager@sgpgraves.com

Sheffield Olympic Legacy Park is also home to three SIV venues – English Institute of Sport Sheffield, iceSheffield and Altitude – world class facilities offering a variety of activities, lessons and events.

On Wednesday 27 June SIV are hosting a Health and Wellbeing Day at the English Institute of Sport Sheffield as part of Move More Month. You’ll get the chance to enjoy a range of free activities including table tennis, badminton, walking football, fitness classes and a smoothie bike and there will also be a soft play area for children. There’s plenty of parking available at Sheffield Olympic Legacy Park – car park entrance on Worksop Road – and the yellow route Supertram ‘Arena/Olympic Legacy Park’ stop is right next to Don Valley Bowl.
