Scarborough International Properties Limited is now bringing forward its comprehensive plans for further development at Sheffield Olympic Legacy Park. This follows the recent decision by Sheffield City Council to recognise Scarborough as ‘preferred developer’ for the project.
The first Scarborough building at Sheffield Olympic Legacy Park will be the Community Stadium, for which Scarborough is already in a contract with Sheffield City Council for a long-leasehold interest, and has secured detailed planning permission.
Works will start on the Community Stadium in December 2019, incorporating a 4,141 sq m mixed use office and commercial building alongside an initial phase of 750 spectator seats. Permission has been granted for a capacity of up to 3,921 spectators in the completed stadium.
The commercial space will be offered for letting in accordance with Sheffield Olympic Legacy Park principles supporting the health and wellbeing agenda. The Community Stadium will follow the Advanced Wellbeing Research Centre (AWRC), Oasis Academy Don Valley, and UTC Sheffield Olympic Legacy Park that have already been delivered and which have established the site as a major new economic growth opportunity for Sheffield City Region.
Sheffield United Women Football Club and Sheffield Eagles Rugby League Football Club will retain their home at Sheffield Olympic Legacy Park Community Stadium.
Scarborough’s project team includes GMI Construction, Whittam Cox Architects, Arup, Ares Landscape Architects, Burnley Wilson Fish and Zerum. Lambert Smith Hampton will lead the letting and marketing.
Besides bringing forward the development of the Community Stadium in December 2019, the Scarborough team is also developing detailed proposals for the first buildings of the wider Sheffield Olympic Legacy Park, starting with a cluster adjacent to the Community Stadium and the AWRC, and is designing the wider masterplan extending to an area of approximately 70 acres.
Construction of this next phase of buildings is planned to start by the second quarter of 2020.
