Students at UTC Sheffield Olympic Legacy Park are celebrating a top set of academic and technical results.

At the UTC, students complete A Levels alongside technical qualifications in computing or health sciences or sport science.

A total of 38 students sat exams this year. The A Level pass rate is 94.5%. The pass rate for A Level grades from A* to B is 35%.

The technical qualification pass rate is 100% for computing, 100% for health sciences and 100% for sport science. Students achieving A* – B equivalents were 90.5% for computing, 85.7% for health sciences and 100% for sport science.

At A Level all students passed maths with 80% achieving A*, and 100% secured A* – C in computing.

The UTC, based on Sheffield Olympic Legacy Park, is Ofsted graded ‘good’ and is a technical school for 13 to 19-year-olds.

Dr Sarah Clark, Principal of UTC Sheffield Olympic Legacy Park, said: “I’d like to congratulate all of our students for their hard work, determination and success. This is a great set of academic and technical results and I wish them all the very best for their future.”

This year’s students are going onto a range of top destinations including Lancaster University, Oxford University, University of Sheffield and the University of North Texas in America as well as apprenticeships.

The technical qualifications are equivalent to between one and three A Levels, and involve working on employer-led projects and developing skills related to the subject specialism as well as team working and problem solving skills. The £10 million UTC is equipped with cutting edge industry standard facilities.

UTCs are government funded technical schools that have been established to provide technical learning opportunities in partnership with employers and universities. They provide academic and technical qualifications to match the skills needs of regional employers, supporting economic growth and employment.

Employers supporting the UTC include Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, employers on the Olympic Legacy Park, Sheffield Hallam University and the University of Sheffield.

Students can join the UTC at the age of 13 in Year 9 or at the age of 16 in Year 12 and the UTC recruits from across Sheffield City Region.
